I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing
human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.

No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

This really is a sad day in America.

Despite the recent negative press given cursive, in one Jacksonville, Florida classroom, the summer school morning began every day with a brief cursive opportunity. Fooey to the critics! The reasons for offering cursive practice: focus, purpose, eye-hand coordination, a settling-down time to zero in on reading and a tool to teach reading. YES, I actually said, “A tool in which to teach reading!” It was one of the rituals and routines done every day in room 111 this summer during the long 6 week summer school session.

Summer school for an elementary kid was rough as it was. I don’t know of any one of the children who said, “Yeah, I’m going to spend from 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. inside a working classroom while all of my friends are playing in the neighborhood or on vacation”. It was rough for the kid and my, oh, my, it was rough on the teacher.

But, honestly, to make this event palatable for a 9 or 10 year old has been the fact that he or she came into this class without a skill and clearly can see through visual means how each gained the beauty of a cursive handwriting upon leaving. Not only have I seen the pride in them as they have gained this obvious skill, but I have heard their excitement through “Ooohs and ahhs” and sometimes in words of disbelief when they see their own performance.

The reading lesson for the day began with hand development. Strengthening the hand is important in regards to reading as after every reading effort, there is a written activity. Children who have a strong hand don’t have to think about their writing any more. They simply think about the answer to the reading question. This is a major important need where poor readers are concerned. Cursive develops fine motor skills and thus, strengthens the hand.

When teaching reading, students need decoding skills, a quickness of mind and reflection on sounds and blends. Cursive brings about attention to detail and while teaching students to read detail is only one of the many important gains of importance.

The summer school session is just about at an end and great strides have been made with students in the way of reading and language skills and in this teacher’s view, it all began with cursive. Students can read faster, they know their skills better, they can comprehend at a finer level and every one of the 18 in this class will walk away with a skill with which they did not come cursive…

It’s like riding a bike. Once you have it, it’s yours forever so as I said in the title… “Cursive Forever”.

When I visited China, people were happy to sweep the bridge for $$ to buy their food. In America, I see with my own two eyes young couples who are having one baby after another and on food stamps. This is not only wrong for the financial state of our country but for the couples themselves. How can they feel accomplished? How can they grow and be the person they should be?

Instead they are becoming beggars and unproductive. Its a sad day in this country for the government to be taking care of strong and strapping young folks when they should be working and adding to the excellence of our country.

She was acquitted of killing her little toddler but will she ever be free. The jury is still out.

A make-shift memorial was made at the location of where the little girl was found; only blocks from the precious girl’s home. On the day of Casey’s acquittal, police cars rode the area, sat around in various locations and in some cases were there but no one in them as an obvious sign that the police wanted to show “presence”.

At the memorial area, no cars could ride past and to see it, one would have to park completely outside the area as it was blocked off to normal traffic.

Will the public ever know what happened to little Caylee Marie Anthony?

If a person does not really need the food, why are they getting the food stamps? It seems that food stamps should be for those who are really hungry.
